It was a brilliant all-round performance from young Kasey McAteer and now the manager has got a problem come September.

The main things going into the games in September is confidence and I think they'll have that now.

More from the Republic of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson speaking on RTE 2:

"Kasey McAteer had a really good performance today.

"You always put out some questions when you play games like this and you get answers. That is the aim to get answers, some are good and some are bad.

"He showed a lot of confidence and he took players on and got the goal as the reward.

    "I'm really happy for him."

Republic of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson speaking on RTE 2:

"With all the substitutions, the game became loose.

"In a competitive game, it is unlikely we would have made so many substitutions, but we wanted to see players come in and give them a chance to shine.

"I am happy with the performance. There are a lot of positive things we can take from this.

"Maybe the negative thing is we concede goals from crosses too often."

We'll be bringing reaction from Republic of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson very soon.

That was his ninth game in charge and it was his first draw as manager of the Republic of Ireland.

Heimir Hallgrimsson obviously tells the players what he wants them to do, but once the game starts he gives them the freedom to make decisions.

I think that is a big, big thing that he trusts his players and I think that shows with the way they play.

Senegal are a really tough team and when you play against the big teams, you will suffer at times but I really felt that the Republic of Ireland team shape was fantastic.

People filled in holes and closed them down.

Even though Senegal were on top in the second half, there weren't very many chances.

Caoimhin Kelleher didn't have a lot to do tonight, but he did make a few huge saves.

The goal that the Republic of Ireland conceded was sloppy.

There was talk of off-side, but I think it was OK. Senegal were on top for most of the second half and deserved the equaliser.

"It was my first start at the Aviva and I am hoping for many more and it was nice to get on the scoresheet.

"It is a shame we couldn't hold on to get the win, but Senegal are a really good team and we'll take it in our stride."

A young and much-changed Senegal were outplayed by the hosts in the first half but after making changes in the second half, they had the Republic of Ireland on the back foot and scored a deserved equaliser.

Certainly, though, Heimir Halgrimsson will take plenty of positives from this, not least Kasey McAteer's first international goal. Senegal keep that unbeaten run going.
